What I Learned

Baton Rouge has a large amount of people with food insecurity. Working with the food bank I feel I have helped make a difference and impact in the community.

Giving Back

Since November 2022, when I signed up for my first Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank (GBRFB) opportunity, I have put in 100+ hours. My favorite opportunity to sign up for is the sort and repack room. The environment is one of excitement and compassion. Everyone I have met there has been kind and ready to help make a difference. The summer of 2023, I was able to volunteer more consistently and I became friends with a lot of the Red Shirt volunteers; they have over 100 hours and are the volunteer leads. I have my "Food Bank Grandpa" who checks in with me about school, extracurriculars, and general updates. He has been kind enough to help get me in contact with others in the medical field which have been helpful for medical school requirements. I first started volunteering just to volunteer but I have stayed because of the mission and the other volunteers!
