What I Learned
I was a student athlete so I had to learn how to balance my classwork and extracurriculars.
I learned leadership skills and teamwork in order to become a winning team.
I learned how to balance my classwork and practices, and even received Scholar Athlete awards.
My Favorite Memories
My favorite softball memories are the long bus rides to and from the field. Since the softball fields were not on campus, our head coach drove a bus to a from our "home" fields as well as the away games. The long drives meant that the entire team was on the bus together and is where we did a lot of team bonding. We had team songs that we yelled together but we also had some serious pep talks when heading into important games. These bus rides made us a better team.
My favorite lacrosse memory was my first tryouts. The head coach and my teacher made it a point to let me know if I came to tryouts I was going to be on the team and they were going to use that time to teach me how to play. When I showed up, that is exactly what happened. The goalie coach and I worked one-on-one for the entire 3 days of tryouts and by the end of it, I was not half bad. Catcher and goalies do very similar tasks, so I was able to apply my softball skills to lacrosse which made my baseline higher than other new goalies. In some skills, I was on par with the goalie who had been playing for years.
