ABOUT ME
Brief Overview
To Future Medical Schools, Review Committees, and others reading,
Hello! My name is Emily Andrews. I am an LSU graduate with a Bachelor of Science. I majored in Biological Sciences with a Secondary Education Concentration.
My senior year of undergrad included the following courses and experiences. My spring 2025 course load included student teaching at Liberty Magnet and EDCI 4720: Teaching Students with Dyslexia. My fall 2024 course load consisted of: Science Teaching in Secondary School III: Instructional Strategies in the Sciences, Biochemistry of Aging, Parasitology lecture and lab, and Instructional Models for Mathematics & Science. I was on the Dean's List both semesters and completed all requirements of the LSU Distinguished Communicator Program to earn the Distinguished Communicator medal.
Now, a little about my post-graduation plans. I am currently working at Our Lady of the Lake as a Case Technician. My responsibilities in this role are to pull instruments for surgeries scheduled for the day, stock the operating rooms with supplies, clean and turn over the rooms after surgeries end, and scrub in to hold cameras or retractors. Additionally, I bring items to and from the laboratory and put instrument sets away after they are sterilized. After demonstrating my strong understanding of the role and abilities to communicate and teach others, I have been training new Case Technicians over the past six months. This job has allowed me to observe surgeries up close and learn from many doctors across several specialties as well as understand the flow and demands of the operating rooms. I have been able to work with every member of the OR team to learn more about how intertwined the OR team is in regard to roles and responsibilities and how they each impact patient care.
As well as working full-time, I am studying for the MCAT, which I am scheduled to take in September 2026. In addition to taking the MCAT, I am enrolled in two courses for fall 2026: Human Anatomy and Physiology I and Nutrition. I am planning to enroll in a Phlebotomist Certification Course in the upcoming months to further my education in the medical field and gain more hands-on patient care experience.
Thank you for reading!
